Heartnut Seedlings
Heartnut Seedlings
(Juglans ailantifolia)
The heartnut tree is a cultivar of the Japanese walnut and gets its name from the heart-shaped nuts it produces.
These nuts are encased in a thin, green husk and have a hard, outer shell. Inside the hard shell, you'll find a creamy, flavorful kernel. Heartnuts have a rich, nutty flavor that's similar to walnuts. Heartnut trees are known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in various climates. They are well-suited for colder regions where other nut trees may struggle. These trees can grow to be quite large, often reaching heights of 50 feet or more. They have a spreading canopy that provides ample shade. Heartnut trees have large, compound leaves that are a deep green color. These leaves create a beautiful display throughout the growing season. Self-fertile but will produce more nuts if planted with a second heartnut seedling nearby. (Zone 5)
