Bur Oak Seedlings
Bur Oak Seedlings
(Quercus macrocarpa)
The bur oak tree is a large, deciduous tree native to North America. Bur oaks produce acorns (often very large) with a fringed cup that resembles a bur. These acorns are a favorite food for many wildlife species. Bur oak trees can grow to be quite large, reaching heights of 80-100 feet. They have a broad, spreading canopy that provides ample shade. Bur oak leaves are lobed and have a distinctive, "fuzzy" appearance. They turn a golden-brown color in the fall. The bark of a bur oak tree is thick and deeply furrowed, often with a corky texture. Bur oak trees are highly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of soil conditions. They are known for their drought tolerance. (Zone 3)
