Black Cherry Seedlings
Black Cherry Seedlings
(Prunus serotina)
Black Cherry are one of the largest species of cherry reaching heights of 50-80’. Native to North America and a valuable timber species often used in high end cabinetry and furniture making. Profuse fragrant white blooms in the spring produce large racemes of dark red/purple fruits in late summer and are loved by wildlife. Although the fruit can be consumed right off the tree, it is more often used for jams, jellies, wine and syrups. Trees often start bearing fruit at 5-10 years old. Susceptible to black knot and tent caterpillars. Can be poisonous to livestock so keep out of pastures. (zone 3)
