Beach Plum - Improved Seedlings
(Prunus maritima)
The beach plum is a small, deciduous shrub native to the east coast of North America, from New Brunswick to Maryland. Extremely salt tolerant it typically grows to be 6-12 feet tall, with a spreading habit. The tree produces small, white flowers in clusters in early spring, often before the leaves emerge. The fruit is small and round, with a deep blue or purple color, sometimes red or yellow. The flesh is tart and slightly sweet. Prized for making jams and jellies. Plant at least 2 for pollination. (Zone 3)
*Our seedlings have been planted from mother trees that owe their genetics to the improved breeding efforts of Dr. Richard Uva of Cornell University.
