Hybrid Hazelnut Seedlings
Hybrid Hazelnut Seedlings
(Corylus spp.)
Our hybrid hazelnuts are grown from seed and are a cross between the European genetics of Corylus avellana (bred for large tasty nuts) and the native north american hazelnut species Corylus americana (hardy and resistant to the eastern filbert blight) and Corylus cornuta (also hardy and resistant to EFB). The combination of genetics offers a hardy adaptable bush form plant, with better nut qualities than the wild type alone can offer. Wind pollinated, several should be planted in close proximity to ensure a good crop. Great choice for a hedgerow or windbreak. Our genetics originally came from the Badgersett research station who have been working to improve these plants for decades in the upper midwest. (zone 4)
