Large shrub/small tree native to North America. Heavy clusters of white flowers in the spring give way to dark red fruit in late August/september. Loved by birds and other wildlife. Popular for making jams, jellies, syrups and wine. Closely related to the black cherry. Susceptible to black knot and tent caterpillars. Can be poisonous to livestock so keep out of pastures. (zone 3)
